What meals do you offer?
We have a cook who makes hot meals fresh each day at our on-site kitchen, which has been ranked 5 stars for food hygiene. We provide a vegetarian option upon request. Some of the dishes we provide are spaghetti bolognese, corned beef hash, homemade pizza and much more. We offer a pudding with lunch too, which range from fruit salad to homemade cakes etc.
What do I need to bring for my child?
You need to bring nappies, wipes, nappy cream and spare clothes. In the summer you will need to bring a sun hat and sun cream, and in cold and wet weather you need to bring wellies, hat, scarf and gloves.
You will also need to provide any medication your child is currently taking.
What happens if my child is ill or has an accident?
If your child is ill, it is important to keep them at home, to avoid spreading the illness amongst staff and children. If your child has diarrhea or vomiting, they need to be kept home for at least 48 hours after the last occurrence, as recommended by the NHS.
If a child has an accident at home, it is essential to inform the nursery so that we can be aware. Any accidents or injuries that take place in nursery will be recorded and shared with parents.
In the event of a potential head injury, such as a trip or fall, children will be monitored closely and parents will be strongly advised to seek further medical attention. You can find out more information about head injuries here.
If a serious accident occurs and your child require an ambulance, a member of staff will accompany your child to the hospital until you arrive, this ensures that medical treatment is not delayed.
If your child requires any medication, staff must be informed and consent papers need to be filled. If your child develops any allergies, these too need to be recorded.

Do you take the children out on trips?
We go on trips to the local park to explore nature and stretch our legs. We also introduce children to the bus when taking them to the library for a story and rhyme session with the librarians.
We will only take children out with a signed consent.
What are your staff to children ratios?
We adapt our ratios to the needs of every child. Below is out minimum ratio as set out by government guidance, however in practice we aim to provide children with quality adult interaction and engagement. This includes smaller ratios for all children with special educational needs and disabilities.
0 – 2 Years old: 1 member of staff to 3 children.
2 – 3 Years old: 1 member of staff to 4 children.
3 + Years old: 1 member of staff to 8 children.
What activities do you do with the children?
Our standard activities involve messy play like painting or coloured shaving foam, other sensory exploration such as sand pits, water trays and playdough. We have toys for fine motor skills such as building blocks and puzzles and toys for imaginative play such as our animal sets and our home corner. We do lots of singing and dancing as well as nursey rhymes and book reading.
Every half term we set up a different theme such as the weather, exploring all-about-me and even the Olympics! Our theme helps our children link different activities and skills together and make connections both inside and out.
On Thursday we have a special football session run by Manchester City’s City in the Community.
With parents’ consent, we share pictures of our activities on Facebook, so be sure to follow our page for the latest news.
How will you settle my child in?
We will invite you and your child to attend 2 free settling in sessions to introduce you both to the staff and the setting. If needed, we can offer up to 5 settling in sessions, each session being a maximum of 1 hour long.
During these sessions you will be introduced to your child key person who will be supporting their transition into our nursery and following their progress throughout the year. If you have concerns, please know that you can call the nursery to have an update on how your child is doing and if we have any concerns we will phone you without hesitation.
Some parents like to send us photos of close family and friends which we can print off into a booklet for their children to look at when they are a little upset.
Due to our on going Covid-19 protocols, we require all adults invited to the nursey to wear a mask and use hand sanitiser.
Can anyone turn up on the day to pick my child?
No.
In the interest of safety, only people you have listed on the registration form can pick up your child. Anyone not listed will not be allowed access to you child without confirmation, in which case we would give you a call.
If you have any concerns around pick up, please let a member of staff know. Alternatively, you can set up a password to use for picking up your child.

How can I see what activities my child has been doing?
Your child’s key person will keep observations of your child’s activities and progress in their personal development folder, this can include notes and pictures. Just talk to a member of staff and a meeting can be arranged to discuss how your child is doing and any questions or concerns you may have.
If you have provided consent for your child to be photographed and published, you can also see pictures of them on Facebook or in our newsletter.
I’m worried about my child’s progress, what should I do?
All new children go through a number of assessments so that we can track their progress through out their time with us. Our staff use Ofsted recommended Birth To 5 Matters to flag any potential delays in your child’s development and will work with you to identify strategies to support your child. All staff are provided with special training provided by Rodney House in order to provide early intervention for our children.
If you have a concern about your child’s progress, talk to a member of staff to arrange a meeting with their key person.

Do you toilet train the children?
Yes we do.
As soon as your child is ready to begin toilet training or is already in the process of toilet training, we can help by encouraging and taking your child to the toilet or potty. We offer sticker rewards when they have used the toilet as part of positive reinforcement which you can continue to do at home.
We ask that you make sure there are plenty of spare clothes in your child’s bag and a spare pair of shoes too in case of any accidents.
